Medical College awards $2.3 million for nine new projects

The Medical College of Wisconsin’s (MCW) Healthier Wisconsin Partnership Program (HWPP) will fund nine new community health projects totaling $2.3 million.

 
One “Impact” award will receive approximately $750,000 over five years and eight “Development” awards will receive roughly $200,000 each over two years. 

Projects selected include:

  • Growing Healthy Soil for Healthy Communities ($749,999)
  • A Collaborative Response to Reduce Binge Drinking in Rural Wisconsin Communities ($200,000) 
  • Community Information System: Linking Data to Improve Health ($199,921)
  • Healthier Obstetrical Outcomes through Enrichment Activities and Community Engagement ($200,000)
  • Improving home visitor response to postpartum depression ($147,951)
  • Networked for Action: Eau Claire County Health Data Web-Portal for Community Change (200,000)
  • Proactive Outreach for the Health of Sexually Exploited Youth ($158,276)
  • Scaling up Milwaukee Urban Agriculture and Nutrition Through a Community/Science Institute ($199,993)
  • Teleophthalmology to Improve Eye Health among Latinos: UCC-MCW-Marquette Collaboration ($200,000)

 
“The MCW Consortium on Public and Community Health endorses the new projects funded by the Healthier Wisconsin Partnership Program as part of MCW’s commitment to improve the quality of health throughout Wisconsin,” said Cheryl A. Maurana, Ph.D., director of Advancing a Healthier Wisconsin and MCW Consortium member.

HWPP is a program of the Advancing a Healthier Wisconsin endowment created by funds generated from Blue Cross & Blue Shield United of Wisconsin’s conversion to a for-profit corporation.  HWPP awards funding to partnerships between academics and community health and non-profit organizations for urban, rural and statewide health improvement projects in Wisconsin.
