Marquette to break ground Friday on Jesuit Residence

Marquette University, in Milwaukee, will break ground on its new residence for the college’s Jesuit priest community on Friday.

The 40,000-square-foot, five-story building will be designed by Kubala Washatko Architects. It will include 25 resident rooms, five guest rooms, a chapel and garden space. The current Jesuit Residence will eventually be razed to create additional green space on campus.

Marquette raised $15 million to build the facility over nine months of fundraising.

The ceremony will begin at 10:30 a.m. in the 1400 block of West Wells Street between Schroeder Hall and the Alumni Memorial Union. A short program will include remarks from University President Michael Lovell, the Rev. Jeffrey Labelle, rector of the Jesuit community, and the Rev. Thomas Lawler, provincial of the Wisconsin Province of the Society of Jesus.
