Marquette teams up with Comet for social media event

Marquette University and Comet Branding will co-host the PR+Social Media Summit at Marquette University Alumni Memorial Union on Thursday, April 8 from 8 a.m. to 4:45 p.m.

Marquette University and Comet Branding will co-host the PR+Social Media Summit at the Marquette University Alumni Memorial Union on Thursday, April 8 from 8 a.m. to 4:45 p.m.
The one day summit will focus on the convergence of strategic communications and social media, said Sara Meaney, partner with Comet Branding.
“What we want to do is focus on how and where public relations, corporate communications and strategic communication overlap,” Meaney said.
Marquette University’s Public Relations Student Society of America group has played an active role in developing the content for the summit, and will also play a key role in marketing and promoting the event, said Al Krueger, partner at Comet Branding.
“We have been working with PRSSA to build this program and build the speakers for the summit, and we really focused on getting people who are on the communication and marketing sides of the business,” Krueger said. “Beyond that, we are really focusing on results and outcomes, and bringing in speakers who have actual numbers, real life case studies and have actually done it and experienced success.”
The exact topics for the event have not yet been decided but it will include speakers from companies like IBM, BlendTec/Will it Blend, Jockey International, Trek Bicycles, Marcus Hotels & Resorts, PitchEngine.com, Big Shoes Network, Lightburn, Radio Milwaukee, and Radian 6.
“We really reached out to people who could say ‘this is what we did, this is how we did it,'” said Meaney “The summit will really focus on business outcome, and look at the evolution of a company through the use of social media.”
Cost to attend the event is $75 for professionals and $10 for students with a valid ID. All post-expense proceeds from the event will go towards a scholarship for Marquette’s PRSSA chapter.
A post event Tweetup will also be hosted by Clear at the Intercontinental Hotel Milwaukee.
“We want the summit to be an educational process for everyone at all levels,” Meaney said. “Attendees should go away armed with enough information and knowledge to make a case on why social media is a strategic application of communication, and how they can convert it into real business results.”
