Marquette University has named its Women Business Leaders speaker series after June and Herman Loebl in recognition of their $1 million gift to the university.

Marquette launched the speaker series last year to highlight distinguished women business leaders in the community.

This year’s June and Herman Loebl Women Business Leaders Speaker Series will be held March 21, featuring keynote speaker Becky Frankiewicz, president of ManpowerGroup North America.

The Loebl’s gift will also fund the June and Herman Loebl Endowment for Excellence for the Advancement of Women in the College of Business Administration.

“Among the very best ways to demonstrate we’re all equal regardless of our gender is to highlight successful women in roles often perceived to be better suited for men,” Michael Lovell, president of Marquette. “This gift will help us illuminate biases, some of which may be unconscious, and work toward equity.”

During his 38-year career at Marquette, Herman Loebl was chair of the accounting and finance departments, director of the MBA program, assistant dean and associate dean. He and his wife June were committed to making education available to all, the university said.

“We are grateful for the gift and its underlying vision, which will impact and inspire our students, not only through this speaker series but through other leadership development activities for our female students,” said Brian Till, Keyes dean of business administration.

Marquette University also recently received a $5 million gift from the Thomas J. Rolfs Family Foundation to establish a research-based institute focused on women’s leadership. The new Institute for Women’s Leadership is expected to launch in the summer.
