Marcus Theatres buys suburban Chicago theater complex

Major renovations planned

Marcus Theatres, a division of Milwaukee-based The Marcus Corp., announced today that it has purchased the Country Club Hills Cinema in suburban Chicago.

It is the sixth movie theater complex owned by Marcus Theatres in Illinois. The others are located in Addison, Chicago Heights, Elgin, Gurnee and Orland Park. All of those communities are in the Chicago area.

Marcus said it plans to do extensive renovations before reopening the 16-screen, 85,000-square-foot Country Club Hills Cinema later this year.

“With the purchase complete, plans are underway to add several of Marcus Theatres’ most popular amenities to Country Club Hills Cinema before unveiling it to the public as an enhanced entertainment destination,” said Rolando Rodriguez, president and chief executive officer of Marcus Theatres. “Given the extent of the renovations, we decided the best approach was to keep the theater closed during construction. Marcus Chicago Heights Cinema is only seven miles away, providing a nearby option for our guests to continue seeing movies during this time. We look forward to opening a new Marcus Country Club Hills Cinema later this year.”

Construction is expected to begin in May.
