Marcus Theatres buys Franklin cinema

Marcus Theatres, a division of Milwaukee-based The Marcus Corp., announced that it will purchase the Showtime Cinema at 8910 S. 102nd St. in Franklin out of receiver ship.

Marcus Theatres submitted the highest bid to purchase the theater at an auction on Dec. 8. The purchase is expected to close today.

The theater will be closed on Thursday, Dec. 15, and will reopen on Friday, Dec. 16, as a Marcus Theatres location.

The theater is located southwest of Highway 100 and Loomis Road.

“We are happy to have the opportunity to keep Showtime Cinema open and to make it possible for Franklin-area patrons to continue to see the latest first-run movies,” said Bruce Olson, president of Marcus Theatres. “We look forward to making improvements to our newest Marcus Theatres location.”

There are no immediate plans for remodeling, but the theatre will receive some cosmetic changes in the coming months, Olson said.

“The biggest improvement will be all new digital projection and sound systems,” he said. “Under Marcus Theatres ownership, the theatre will retain the Showtime name and will benefit from the company’s established marketing programs and operating systems.”

With the purchase of Showtime Cinema, Marcus Theatres will own or operate 695 screens at 56 locations in the Midwest.
