Spancrete founder passes away

Henry Nagy, founder of The Spancrete Group Inc. in Waukesha, passed away on Tuesday, Jan. 13, at the age of 100.

Nagy founded West Allis Concrete Products in 1946 and in 1953 brought a precast concrete manufacturing machine from Germany to the United States, building the foundation of the company he eventually called Spancrete.

Spancrete has grown to become the Midwest’s leading architectural and structural precast concrete provider.

Spancrete precast concrete has been used in notable Milwaukee-area landmarks and roadways, including the Bradley Center, the Petit National Ice Center and the recently completed Marquette Interchange project.

In a statement, the company said, "Henry was an innovator and entrepreneur, making friends and influencing lives on many levels around the world. His humor and warmth were appreciated by people everywhere, and his knowledge and common sense were well-respected. While his business accomplishments are numerous, Henry’s greatest roles were those of a beloved husband, caring father, adored grandfather and esteemed friend."

In lieu of flowers, the Nagy family suggests a donation to Lutheran Social Services, the Robert H. Nagy Family Foundation, P.O. Box 828, Waukesha, WI 53187.
