Standard Electric opens new plant in Sheboygan; Schneider reassigns instructors to driving routes

Standard Electric opens new plant in Sheboygan

Milwaukee-based Standard Electric Supply Co. has opened a new plant in Sheboygan at 3417 Weeden Creek Road.

The electrical distributor has served customers in the Sheboygan market for many years, but recently completed construction on a 15,000-square-foot building to better serve the region. The new facility includes a state-of-the-art enclosure modification center and will provide greater inventory and more enclosure modification options to customers.

Standard Electric Supply is celebrating its 90th year in business. The company is based at 222 N. Emmber Lane in Milwaukee.

Schneider reassigns instructors to driving routes

Schneider Training Academy Inc., a training company owned by Schneider National Inc. to train drivers for Schneider National Carriers Inc., recently told the Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development that it will reassign 52 of its 55 trainers to driving routes.

The company’s letter to the state says it has decided to hire only experienced drivers not in need of training, thus eliminating the need for its training division.

"Our financial strength coupled with other motor carriers exiting the business has resulted in a significant increase in the availability of experienced drivers seeking employment with us," the letter stated. "As a result, the Schneider organization is focusing on the hiring of experienced drivers and eliminating its training and hiring of inexperienced drivers."

Three of the company’s trainers have been identified as being physically incapable of driving. The company says it will try to find positions for those drivers, but they may be laid off.
