Brady Corp. to host lean presentations
Brady Corp. will host presentations at two lean manufacturing-related conferences in May: The Total Productive Maintenance Conference (Charlotte, N.C., May 12-16); and the Noria Lean Manufacturing & Reliability World Conference (Nashville, Tenn., May 20-22).
Brady will showcase new tools for lean practitioners using 5S, Standard Work, Total Productive Maintenance and other lean concepts.  This includes new software that simplifies the creation of multicolor gauge labels, oil level indicators and other visual controls used in autonomous and preventative maintenance programs.

ASQ to hold sessions in China
The American Society for Quality is partnering with the China Certification and Accreditation Association (CCAA) to host an Executive Roundtable on April 8 in Beijing, China.
The event will focus on the value of quality-related certifications. The roundtable panelists will discuss a quality-related best practice and a quality methodology/tool that their organization employed to respond to the changing landscape, in respect to globalization.

Marquette names chair for new engineering program
Marquette University’s College of Engineering has named Mark Federle, Ph.D., the McShane Chair in Construction Engineering and Management.
Construction engineering and management is a new program in the Marquette Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering. The new program will officially begin this fall.
The position was funded by a $5 million gift from alumni Jim and Kelly McShane last year. Federle will join Marquette April 1 from The Weitz Company, a national construction company based in Iowa, where he has worked since 1999. In his most recent role at The Weitz Company, he served as chief information officer and vice president.
When Federle joins Marquette, he will return to his academic roots. From 1990 to 1999, he was a professor in civil construction and environmental engineering at Iowa State University.
