Mama Mia’s to close Wales restaurant

Last service day slated for May 3

Longtime Italian eatery Mama Mia’s is closing its Wales location later this week after 17 years in business. 

The restaurant, located at 200 W. Summit Ave., will have its last service day on Friday, May 3, according to an announcement on its Facebook page.

Mama Mia’s also operates a location at 18900 W. Bluemound Road in Brookfield. That restaurant remains open.

Its Wales location this week is offering specials such as pasta dishes, specialty pizzas and “throwback dinners,” each priced at $17.

Mama Mia’s is know for its specialty and build-your-own pizzas, garlic bread, pastas and entrees such as lasagna and chicken parmesan. Founder Alvin Fernandez and Anthony Barbiere fist opened the business in 1954 at 49th Street and North Avenue in Milwaukee, according to its website.

That location closed in 1963, but the company is still family-owned and operated.
