Lutheran Urban Mission Initiative, Inc. (LUMIN), a Lutheran-affiliated, nonprofit operator of five Milwaukee-area schools, has acquired Renaissance School, located at 6150 Taylor Avenue in Mt. Pleasant.
The school, which is part of the Racine Parental Choice Program, serves approximately 350 students in grades K4-8.
According to the agreement between LUMIN and Renaissance, LUMIN will facilitate business, administrative and academic services at the school. The school’s staff will retain employment and will continue to be led by founders Frank and Irene Trecroci. Kelleah Lewis, an experienced Milwaukee educator, will take over as principal, and Tiffany Venegas will serve as the new dean of students.
“LUMIN brings so much to our students, their families and the overall Racine community,” Frank said. “They have a proven track record of success in Milwaukee, and we’re thrilled to bring them on board. LUMIN will implement Christian-based curricula including a Biblically-based character development program.”
Renaissance has been searching for an organization to assume school operations for more than a year, according to LUMIN.
“When we began our discussions with Renaissance, we quickly realized many synergies between our organizations,” said Dick Laabs, president of LUMIN. “Renaissance is committed to high quality, results-driven education for children and their families, something LUMIN strongly believes in. They came to us interested in how we structure our schools and administrative teams, and after much discussion, realized we could help them immediately.”
LUMIN’s five other schools work with about 1,300 students in greater Milwaukee, according to the nonprofit.
