Twelve area elementary, middle and high schools have turned ordinary mailboxes into customized works of art to benefit Habitat for Humanity.
The mailboxes will be on display in the Food Court of Mayfair Mall today through May 9. The public is invited to bid on the mailboxes and vote for their favorite.
“In addition to raising funds for Habitat for Humanity that will help build homes in our community, this program provides local students with an innovative project that shows them the value of giving back,” said Steve Smith, senior general manager of Mayfair. “It’s part of our ongoing partnership with this outstanding organization.”
Schools were provided with a mailbox and $50 for supplies. The mailboxes can be viewed and bidding and voting can be done online at www.mayfairmall.com. All donations and winning bids will directly benefit Milwaukee Habitat for Humanity. The school raising the highest amount for Habitat will be awarded a $500 Shop Etc. gift card, courtesy of Mayfair Mall.
Schools participating in the mailbox decorating contest included: Nicolet High School, South Milwaukee High School, Milwaukee High School for the Arts, Divine Savior Holy Angles High School, St. Robert School, Roosevelt Middle School of the Arts, Whitefish Bay Middle School, La Escuela Fratney, Milwaukee Montessori School, Lincoln Center of the Arts, Madison Elementary, and Underwood Elementary.
David J. Frank Landscape Contracting, Inc. of Milwaukee has donated products and services to help make the program possible.
