License expires for Sobelmans MU campus location

Owners failed to show up for renewal hearing

Point Burger Bar will open Nov. 11

The Sobelmans restaurant location near the Marquette University campus in Milwaukee may have to close temporarily until a licensing issue is cleared up.

Point Burger Bar will open Nov. 11

The restaurant’s food, liquor and entertainment license expired Aug. 31. Such licenses are normally renewed without issue. But on June 22 there was an incident in which four students suffered minor injuries after police said a man accidentally fired a gun in the vestibule of the restaurant, located at 1601 W. Wells St.

If a business in the city has a police report, the owners are required to attend a licensee renewal hearing. Because of the June incident, Sobelmans owners Dave and Melanie Sobelman were required to appear at a July 12 hearing, but they failed to show up, and their license expired at the end of Aug. 31.
