Legislative committee to consider train maintenance facility

The Legislature’s Joint Finance Committee will hold a hearing next week that includes a Department of Transportation request for $5 million for preliminary engineering and final design costs for a train-related maintenance facility.
According to the DOT, the trains being built by Talgo are about 80 percent to 90 percent complete.
Under the contract the Doyle administration reached on the trains, the state is required to build a maintenance facility to care for them after they begin running on the Hiawatha line between Milwaukee and Chicago.
The environmental impact study has started, and the money will go toward engineering and design, according to DOT.
