La Causa launches capital campaign

La Causa, Inc., Milwaukee, recently launched a $600,000 capital campaign for its Crisis Nursery and Respite Center. The Campaign will raise funds to build a new facility and create an endowment fund for operational needs.
The proposed Crisis Nursery and Respite Center is a 24- hour, 365 days a year, free emergency shelter for children. It is designed to prevent child abuse and neglect, by providing a safe haven for children.
“Crises happen and not everyone has the support of family and friends to provide a helping hand,” said George Torres, president and CEO of La Causa. “When parents have no other place to turn to, we are here to ensure children have a safe place to eat, learn, play, and sleep.”
La Causa began soliciting support for the campaign in September of 2010. The organization has raised $176,000 through donations from community members, corporations, employees, and families.
According to Roy Cook, co-chair of the capital campaign, the new facility will be built at LaCausa’s present location on Milwaukee’s near south side.
The build out will include space for up to 15 additional children, accommodations for physically disabled children, expanded space for overall care and a parking and security system.
