The Kiwanis Club of Milwaukee will honor Rachel Forman, executive director of the Grand Avenue Club, with the annual Kiwanis Milwaukee Award at a special luncheon on Wednesday, March 26.
For the last 32 years, the award has been saluting individuals whose “recent actions have served as a significant source of pride for the Greater Milwaukee Community” and whose “commitment in undertaking altruistic services helps to build a better community,” according to the Kiwanis Club.
Forman was chosen as the award honoree for her dedication to helping area residents impacted by mental illness transition back into society and into the workforce. She has led the Grand Avenue Club since 1991. The organization offers pre-vocational, educational and employment opportunities to individuals facing mental illness. Corporate and community partners like Foley & Lardner, Derco Aerospace, and Outpost Natural Foods have worked with the organization to employ its members.
Additionally, Forman is part of the Advisory Council of Clubhouse International, the training and accreditation agency for more than 300 programs serving individuals with mental illnesses worldwide.
