Key State Senate seat will be costly

The candidates vying for the 5th Senate District are expected to spend a combined total of $700,000, according to the directors of both the Republican and Democratic state Senate campaign committees.
The 5th Senate District – situated in the west side of Milwaukee and extending into the city’s western suburbs – combines a swing district, an expensive media market and a pair of established candidates in incumbent Dem Sen. Jim Sullivan and GOP state Rep. Leah Vukmir, both of Wauwatosa.
Kory Kozloski of the State Senate Democratic Committee and John Hogan of the Committee to Elect a Republican Senate said during a WisPolitics luncheon this week that those factors, along with control of the chamber hanging in the balance, likely mean both candidates will end up spending $350,000 to $400,000 in the 2010 cycle.
The Wauwatosa Chamber of Commerce will host a debate between Sullivan and Vukmir on Tuesday, Oct. 12, at 5:30 p.m. at Wauwatosa West High School. The debate is open to the public. To register to attend, click here.
