Safe & Sound has appointed Kimberly Kane chair of its board of directors, following the end of Milwaukee Police Chief Edward Flynn’s four-year term in the position.
The Milwaukee-based nonprofit organization works to curb violent crime in the city’s neighborhoods and strengthen relations between law enforcement personnel and area residents.
Kane, president and founder of Kane Communications Group, has been a member of Safe & Sound’s board since 2011 and has served as its vice chair since 2012. She is also leading the nonprofit’s strategic planning efforts through the summer.
“Kimberly has been an extraordinary leader since joining Safe & Sound’s board of directors,” said Katie Sanders, interim executive director of the organization. “She is dynamic, thoughtful and committed to improving quality of life in our community.”
“Safe & Sound is an incredible organization with deep impact in Milwaukee’s neighborhoods,” said Kane, who is also currently running for Racine City Council. “This is an exciting time for Safe & Sound, and I am truly humbled to serve in this capacity. I want to thank Chief Flynn, who is a remarkable leader…His support of and partnership with Safe & Sound has helped improve safety and community well-being across the city.”
Flynn will continue to serve on the board as past chair.
In addition to Safe & Sound, Kane serves on the boards of Meta House, UW-Milwaukee’s College of Health Sciences, and The Prairie School. Her career has also included executive positions with Dohmen and The Novo Group as well as more than 10 years in broadcast journalism.
