Jumpstart on the Weekend

*Friday, Jan. 18, Northwestern Mutual Foundation will present MAM After Dark: Salsa at the Milwaukee Art Museum, 700 N. Art Museum Dr. in Milwaukee. The event will run from 5 p.m. to midnight and will feature salsa lessons with Milwaukee’s Cultura en Clave Dance Company beginning at 7 p.m., a live band beginning at 8:30 p.m., Milwaukee’s DJ SLYM, collection gallery tours through the museum and more. Museum members get in free to the event. Attendees who purchase a membership get in free with a friend. Cost is $13 for nonmembers at the door and $8 in advance. *Friday, Jan. 18, and Saturday, Jan. 19, the Historic Third Ward Association will present Gallery Night and Day. The event, held four times a year in Milwaukee, gives art lovers a chance to view art and tour galleries and venues throughout the city including the Milwaukee Institute of Art & Design (MIAD), Walker’s Point Center for the Arts, CityCenter at 735, and the Milwaukee Public Market. This weekend’s event will include 48 venues available for participants to visit. Participants get in free at each venue during event hours, which vary among locations. *Saturday, Jan. 19, the Milwaukee Art Museum will host Yoga @ the Museum from 8:15 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. The monthly yoga session, presented by the museum and omTownYogis, caters to all skill levels. The museum, located at 700 N. Art Museum Dr. in Milwaukee, will open for attendees at 7:45 a.m. Pre-registration is preferred and is available until 5 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 18 at http://omtownyogis.org/. Walk-ins will also be accepted depending on space. Attendees must bring their own mat. A $15 donation is encouraged to support the museum and omTownYogis’ Annual Grant Fund. *Saturday, Jan. 19, Laugh It Up Milwaukee 2013: Stand Up to Bullying will be held at the Harry & Rose Samson Family Jewish Community Center (JCC). The event will start at 8:30 p.m. and will feature comedians Richard Lewis and Susie Essman. Presented by the Bayshore Community Foundation, the show will support the JCC and Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin’s Act Now! bullying prevention program. Tickets cost $125 and include admission to the show as well as a cocktail and dessert gathering at 7:30 p.m. at the JCC, located at 6255 N. Santa Monica Blvd. in Whitefish Bay.
