Johnson Controls stage will feature company’s technology

The Johnson Controls World Sound Stage at Summerfest will have a few new offerings that feature the Glendale-based company’s energy efficiency technology.

This year’s stage has been updated to include new seating area lamps with LED bulbs, a split system high efficiency air conditioning system for the backstage office and dressing room area and a Metasys building management system that allows for real time energy usage tracking.

Johnson Controls’ stage changes are expected to save 7.7 million watt hours, which could power a Fender Frontman guitar amplifier for more than 21,000 hours.

The new features will be explained in a “sustainability tower” at the entrance to the seating area, which will show the energy efficiency data. The tower will be powered with a wind turbine and solar panels to demonstrate those technologies.

Johnson Controls recently signed a new three-year sponsorship with Milwaukee World Festival Inc. It is taking over the stage previously sponsored by Potawatomi Bingo Casino, near the Mid Gate, and will also advise Milwaukee World Festival on overall event energy efficiency.

Summerfest begins on Wednesday and runs through July 7, except on July 1.
