Other than the obvious health benefits, how has being fit improved your life?
Allowed me to appreciate better health and increased my concern that as a culture we need to do more to help others discover what physical activity works for them. We need to help our schools by connecting parents and their children to the benefits of regular physical activity.
How does personal fitness affect your work life?
On a personal level fitness helps you appreciate life, the environment around you, the importance of relationships and allows you to perform at a higher level for your clients.
Do you have a corporate health or wellness initiative?
Yes
What health/wellness organizations do you contract with, if any?
We are members of the Wellness Council of Wisconsin and promote health promotion companies that are also members.
How does fitness or wellness affect your overall organization?
As a husband and wife team we promote fitness and healthy outdoor activities to our client companies. We have also helped local schools develop outdoor learning and exercise activities in the Kettle Moraine. We need to identify and support local organizations and small business that help people maintain a healthy lifestyle. The local 5K walk/run, fitness center, and Optimists Club bike ride for kids should be part of every employers health plan. We don’t need any more reactive health care. What advice do you have for other executives interested in starting either a personal fitness plan or corporate wellness initiative?
What advice do you have for other executives interested in starting either a personal fitness plan or corporate wellness initiative?
Pursuant to surveys of different populations, the common thread is people’s appreciation for the outdoors and nature. Promote activities in Wisconsin’s great outdoors. Wisconsin is blessed with topography that will engage people and help them discover a place and activity that will keep them engaged. Also, work with your local fitness centers and get your employees involved with local schools.
