The Jewish Community Center has received a $1.5 million grant from the Daniel Soref Charitable Trust to build new aquatics facilities at its Rainbow Day Camp on Huiras Lake in Fredonia.
The day camp’s current aquatic facilities, including its locker rooms, will be demolished over the winter. Construction plans call for a new locker room with changing rooms designed for campers with special needs, as well as the addition of a second pool and a splash pad.
“Of all the things we do at Rainbow – teaching every child how to safely enjoy water is at the top of the list,” said Rainbow Day Camp director Lenny Kass. “We have campers join us from all over the city, of all backgrounds and abilities. The Daniel M. Soref Aquatic Center will help us put a smile on every child’s face, every day of the summer.”
The new structures will be completed in time for the 2017 summer camp season, JCC representatives wrote in a statement released Monday.
