Jeff Lewis defines innovation as “bringing technology to the marketplace to solve business and consumer problems.”
Lewis is president of the ePayment Solution Division of Metavante Corp. in Brown Deer, and he and his organization strive to make life more meaningful and better for their clients. His division has done just that by developing Text Message Banking (TMB).
Created in February of this year and introduced to the marketplace just two months later, this new service allows consumers to use text messaging to obtain any-time balance information on their accounts.
“It also enables consumers to be notified when their balance is low or when their payroll deposit has arrived,” says Demetrius Washington, the Metavante staff member who nominated his company for the IQ Award.
According to Lewis, “Launching TMB helps our core clients – financial institutions of all sizes, to provide a convenience that more of today’s end consumers are demanding. TMB is very innovative and very timely.”
Lewis credits Frank D’Angelo, leader of Metavante’s Payments Solution Group, as the individual who came up with the idea. Metavante’s president and CEO is Frank Martire. Lewis says individuals in the company’s Mobile Team, as well as members of the NYCE Payments Network, a Metavante company, also helped develop TMB.
“The NYCE Network is headquartered in New Jersey and provides consumers with secure, real-time access to their money,” says Chip Swearngan, vice president of corporate communications for Metavante. “NYCE offers more than 300,000 ATMs and almost 2 million of point-of-sale locations nationwide.”
“We anticipate that TMB will add millions of dollars to Metavante’s revenue as more clients begin to offer this service to their end users,” Lewis says.
To illustrate that point, he mentions that the number of text messages in the USA exceeded cell phone conversations in December of last year.
