Environmental Systems Inc. (ESI) places a strong focus on employee training and development. By doing so, it has become a recognized innovator in the building controls and automation, energy management, and security and life safety systems industries.
“The company is an industry leader in the number of hours of training its employees receive through programs such as technology education, performance management and leadership development,” said The Falk Group’s Nathania Rohlinger, who nominated Waukesha-based ESI for an IQ Award.
Training is accomplished at Environmental Systems University (ESU) through a state-of-the-art curriculum and best-in-industry instructors. As part of the systems and services offered by ESI, their clients also attend ESU to gain a thorough understanding of the technology and systems installed by the company. This results in superior systems performance and increased client satisfaction, Rohlinger says.
“ESI’s training philosophy was initiated by Paul Oswald, president and owner of the company, when he purchased the company about four years ago,” Rohlinger says.
Oswald says that both innovation and education drive his company.
“Our tagline is, ‘We Understand, Innovate and Deliver.’ I believe you must have a creative approach to solve problems and you must innovate to be effective. A company either keeps up with its technology or it dies. Too many people get into a rut with their solutions, so we challenge our employees every day to innovate.”
The creation of ESU and the company’s focus on the importance of employee development has resulted in exceptionally high industry retention rates for both employees and clients, according to Rohlinger.
“And the resulting innovative use of available technology to build and install open systems provides long-term cost savings for their clients,” she says.
ESI has experienced a doubling in the number of employees and annual revenues since Oswald became president and owner, she says.
