Indy cars return to Milwaukee Mile

Big-time auto racing is returning to the Milwaukee Mile after a one-year hiatus.
The IZOD IndyCar Series announced its 2011 schedule today at the Milwaukee Mile and said IndyCar racing will return to the track on June 19.
“The return of IRL to the Milwaukee Mile is very exciting for race fans, for the state of Wisconsin, and for the team here at Wisconsin State Fair Park,” said Rick Frenette, executive director of Wisconsin State Fair Park “We are excited about working with IRL and Chris McGrath, and look forward to having race fans and the community come out to enjoy the race, thereby solidifying the Milwaukee Mile’s place on the IZOD IndyCar Series schedule for many years to come.”
NASCAR and the Indy Racing League cancelled their races at the Milwaukee Mile this year after the State Fair Park Board was unable to reach a deal with a new promoter for the track. The previous promoter ceased its operations at the track last year and reportedly owed millions of dollars to vendors, the IRL and NASCAR.
"The Milwaukee Mile is an important track in the heritage and legacy of open-wheel racing in the U.S.,” said Randy Bernard, chief executive officer of the IZOD IndyCar Series. “The fans have been passionate about seeing it return to the schedule so we’re pleased we could deliver it."
AB Promotions – a joint venture between Avocado Motorsports Marketing and BMG Event Productions – will manage and promote the Milwaukee event for 2011.
