Illinois unemployment improves, but still nation’s third worst

    Payrolls climbed in 34 U.S. states in March and unemployment rates fell in 21, showing the job market was making progress across much of the world’s largest economy.

    In Illinois, the unemployment rate dropped in March to 8.4 percent, its lowest level since January 2009.

    But that still ranks Illinois as the third-worst state rate in the U.S.
