Hartford tannery to reduce workforce by 2/3 this summer

The W.B. Place, a Tasman Company, a Hartford tannery with manufacturing and retail operations at 368 W. Sumner St., Hartford, will permanently lay off about 50 workers on Aug. 13, according to a letter sent to the Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development. After the layoffs, the company will have about 25 employees.

According to the company’s web site, W.B. Place specializes in tanning deer hides and making clothing and accessories from buckskin and other hides. A company official could not be reached for further comment before deadline.
