Gundrum knocks off Doyle appointee

GOP state Rep. Mark Gundrum credits a shift in public sentiment toward conservatism for his overwhelming win for a spot on the Waukesha County bench.
Gundrum beat Waukesha County Judge Richard Congdon, who was appointed to the seat by Dem Gov. Jim Doyle, with more than 75 percent of the vote in Tuesday’s election.
Gundrum (R-New Berlin) outspent Congdon after transferring money from his legislative account to his judicial campaign to boost his warchest. Gundrum passed out literature that said he was “right” on values and played up his experience, which includes serving as a judge advocate serving in Iraq.
Gundrum will be sworn in as judge Aug. 1. He said he’ll resign his Assembly seat at the end of July.
