GSA to scale back FBI space search

The U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) recently pulled the FBI office deal off the market and is expected to put a scaled down version of the deal on the street later this summer, according to commercial real estate sources.

“They said they are pulling it off the market, but they will bring it back soon,” one commercial real estate source said.

“We just heard it was going to be scaled down,” another commercial real estate source said.

The FBI currently leases 80,000 square feet of office space in the Plaza East complex at 330 E. Kilbourn Ave. in downtown Milwaukee.

The GSA was previously in the market for 160,000 square feet of space for the downtown Milwaukee office. Earlier this year, Leonard Peace, spokesman for the Milwaukee FBI office, said the office needed more space. When contacted on Tuesday, Peace said he did not know what the latest status is on the deal for the Milwaukee FBI office space.

The GSA had narrowed the possible locations for the Milwaukee FBI office down to about 5 or 6 locations before the deal was pulled off the street, one commercial real estate source said.

The Milwaukee FBI office serves the entire state of Wisconsin. It has 85 agents and 95 professional staff persons, or a total of 180 employees.
