Groundbreaking today for new United Heartland HQ

A groundbreaking ceremony will be held this morning to celebrate the start of construction for a new corporate headquarters building for United Heartland in New Berlin. The 56,000-square-foot, two-story office building will be constructed southeast of I-43 and Moorland Road.

The developer for the project is Wauwatosa-based Irgens Development Partners LLC. United Heartland will lease the space. The architect for the project is Milwaukee-based Kahler Slater Architects.

United Heartland will move its corporate headquarters to the building from its current location in a 52,000-square-foot space at 12695 W. National Ave., New Berlin.

The company, a workers compensation insurer, has about 250 employees in New Berlin and in regional offices in Rosemont, Ill., Charlotte, N.C. and Overland Park, Kan. United Heartland does business in 12 states: Wisconsin, Illinois, Iowa, Indiana, Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia.

Currently about 200 people work in the company’s headquarters office in New Berlin. The new facility will be able to house up to 300 employees. United Heartland plans to add 100 jobs at its corporate headquarters during the next 15 years.
