Grothman opts against running for lieutenant governor

State Sen. Glenn Grothman decided against getting into the lieutenant governor’s race after a last-minute flirtation with a bid.
People had been spotted collecting signatures to help Grothman get on the ballot for the office, and the West Bend Republican acknowledged some had pushed him to get into the race and that he’d given it some thought.
"I could have run, but I decided against it," said Grothman, who is not up for re-election to his Senate seat this fall.
Grothman said he may weigh in on the current GOP field later in the race. The field now includes state Rep. Brett Davis of Oregon, former TV anchor Rebecca Kleefisch of Oconomowoc, former U.S. Senate candidate Robert Gerald Lorge, Dave Ross of Superior and former Deputy Treasurer Nick Voegeli of Sun Prairie.
This isn’t the first time Grothman has made a last-minute decision to run for statewide office. Some Republicans pushed him to run against U.S. Sen. Herb Kohl, D-Milwaukee, in 2006. But Grothman decided against a run on filing day.
