Greater Milwaukee Foundation pumps funds into summer youth programs

The Greater Milwaukee Foundation’s second annual Summer Grants for Kids program distributed nearly $30,000 among 30 area organizations that offer safe and supervised summer activities for youth.

Grants of up to $1,000 each were awarded to agencies whose programs expose kids to experiences they might not otherwise have. Grants also targeted organizations that provide programs for kids and their family members.

“We were thrilled with the variety of quality experiences that our nonprofit partners provided to area youth last summer with help from our Summer Grants for Kids program,” said Janel Hines, director of grant programs at the Greater Milwaukee Foundation. “We were fortunate to offer the opportunity again this year and, through support from our donors, to nearly double the amount of money available.”

In Milwaukee County, foundation grants are impacting the Bay View Community Center, the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Milwaukee, the Children’s Hospital and Health System Foundation Inc., COA Youth & Family Centers, Cops & Kids Foundation, Inc., CORE/El Centro, DanceCircus, Danceworks, Discovery World, First Stage Children’s Theater, Girls Scouts of Wisconsin Southeast, HeartLove Place, La Causa, Latino Arts, Inc., Lead2Change, Milwaukee Ballet Company, Milwaukee Center for Independence, Milwaukee Public Museum, Our Next Generation, Penfield Children’s Center, St. Marcus Lutheran School, The Friendship Circle, TRUE Skool Inc., United Community Center, the Urban Ecology Center, Wild Space, and the Wisconsin Human Society.

In Waukesha County funding was awarded to the Sharon Lynne Wilson Center for the Arts, and in Washington County both the Boys & Girls Clubs of West Bend and the Casa Guadalupe Education Center received grants.
