Grant to support articulation efforts between Lakeland, MATC

A $25,000 grant awarded to Lakeland College’s Milwaukee Center will support the school in helping Milwaukee Area Technical College graduates earn bachelor’s degrees at Lakeland and prepare for careers in teaching.

The grant, known as the T.E.A.C.H. Early Childhood Scholarship Program Articulation Improvement Grant, was given to Lakeland by the Wisconsin Early Childhood Association. Grant funds primarily come from the Department of Children and Families.

The Milwaukee Center’s academic offerings include education degrees in early childhood through middle childhood, defined as pre-kindergarten through sixth grade. Students can also pursue education degrees in middle childhood through early adolescence, specified as grades one through eight.

Grant funds will allow Lakeland to hire graduate interns to work with MATC transfer students on the fundamentals of their degree program.

Lakeland’s Milwaukee Center also plans to maximize the number of credits transferrable from MATC as well as elevate its presence on MATC’s campus and boost the number of MATC transfer students and retention rates.
