For several years, manufacturing businesses in Wisconsin and across the country have reported a severe shortage of skilled workers to fill gaps within their growing businesses.

Dawn Tabat founded GPS Education Partners in 2000 while serving as chief operating officer at Generac Power Systems Inc. in Waukesha. Today, she serves as board president.

GPS Education Partners is focused on creating partnerships between school districts and businesses in order to provide students with a nontraditional education that transforms them into skilled, career-ready graduates who can fill the pipeline of manufacturing employees needed by industry.

Stephanie Borowski, executive director of GPS, has helped grow the organization by creating partnerships with more than 100 business and 35 school districts.

GPS currently operates 16 education centers at manufacturing companies throughout Wisconsin.

The company has grown from six to 39 employees and has expanded the operation budget from $300,000 to a projected $3.74 million this year. Additionally, the organization has a 90 percent student graduation rate.
