Gourmet cooking adventure

Even though she grew up in a family of Milwaukee-area restaurant owners, Gloria Rosenberg never had much of a desire to learn how to cook. It wasn’t until she reached adulthood that Rosenberg, branch manager at North Shore Bank’s Mequon location, discovered her own cooking passion.

“I found I really had a passion for good food and good ingredients,” Rosenberg said. “I loved it so much that my husband and I decided to open a gourmet kitchen store.”

Rosenberg and her husband, David opened a gourmet kitchen store called Gourmet Outfitters in Mequon and another in Brookfield. Both stores have since closed.

“My husband and I always enjoy cooking together and visiting cooking stores and even watching cooking shows,” Rosenberg said. “I kind of had a culinary background, but never took much interest in it until later on.”

Rosenberg enjoys cooking and cooks just about every day, sometimes from her head but other times with recipes or a combination of recipes she has discovered.

“I cook a lot of Italian foods, but I also like to try different ethnic cuisines,” she said.

Rosenberg enjoys traveling to various farmers’ markets for fresh produce and already has plans to attend the Muscoda Morel Mushroom Festival in western Wisconsin this year.

“Food can really be an adventure,” she said. “We entertain guests often and I enjoy having get together nights where we can all cook together as well.”
