Goodwill sells former store location in West Allis

Church planning to move into building

A non-denominational church plans to purchase the former Goodwill store building in West Allis.

Goodwill Industries of Southeastern Wisconsin sold its former building at 11000 W. Oklahoma Ave. to an affiliate of Anderson Commercial Group for $900,000 this week, according to state records.

CrossPoint Church, a non-denominational church established in 2013, has an accepted offer to purchase the 16,000-square-foot building, according to documents filed with the city.

Dave Bluhm, church pastor, said CrossPoint currently rents five locations for all of its programming and has been searching for a permanent location in West Allis for a long time to serve its members who come from West Allis, Greenfield, New Berlin and Muskego.

“We care a lot about West Allis – we want to make it a strong and safe city and we’re here to stay,” said Bluhm, who grew up in West Allis. “This is a great location, it’s the right size and it’s easily accessible.”

The West Allis common council will vote on the church’s proposal March 1. The church currently meets at West Allis Central High School.

CrossPoint Church is hoping to grow and has been in conversations with Boulder Venture, which owns the former Hub Chrysler dealership north of the building, to potentially secure more land for future parking, according to documents filed with the city.  The former Goodwill site has 65 parking spaces.

The church plans to spend about $250,000 to build out the inside of the current building, according to documents filed with the city.

Goodwill moved from the site last year to a former Big Lots store across the street at 10909 W. Oklahoma Ave.

Goodwill purchased that location for $1.5 million in August 2015.
