Wauwatosa-based GenoPalate, Inc., an early-stage nutritional genomics company, announced that it has completed a $4 million round of equity financing from local investors. This is the third round of funding for the company. The funds will be used to expand the capacity of GenoPalate’s internet platform, which the company says will more than double its current capacity. GenoPalate is a provider of nutrigenomics testing and analytical services to help consumers make healthy dietary choices. Using proprietary algorithms, GenoPalate interprets the customer’s DNA to help determine a personalized nutrition profile that shows them which foods are good and bad for their health. In addition to internet platform development, the funds will be used to expand digital marketing and to continue the development of research databases for addressing personalized nutrition, health and wellness, and chronic metabolic diseases such as type-2 diabetes, obesity, and metabolic syndrome, the company said. “To truly eat healthy and apply daily food behavior to preventing chronic metabolic diseases, one must personalize his or her nutrition. Genomics is key to our understanding of anyone's food personalization for health,” said chief executive officer Sherry Zhang, a geneticist who founded GenoPalate in 2016.
