FUEL Milwaukee ‘adopts’ charities

FUEL Milwaukee, an organization dedicated to attracting and retaining talent in the Milwaukee region, is “adopting” eight local charities for 2011 as a strategy to increase employees’ involvement in their community.

The volunteer program is designed to connect fresh-eyed professionals to the nonprofit organizations that need them.

Each nonprofit selected by FUEL will be paired with a team of FUEL’s most active and involved members. Throughout the adoption year, the nonprofit and team will analyze the nonprofit’s most pressing issues and take stock of their volunteer needs. Together they develop a plan of outreach to engage FUEL members in standard and professional-level volunteer projects.

Using FUEL’s online community, select marketing communications and monthly information sessions, FUEL and the adopted nonprofits work together to spread the word and get people involved.

The eight nonprofits to be adopted by Fuel are: 88Nine Radio Milwaukee; ArtWorks for Milwaukee; Community Advocates; Friends of the Milwaukee Public Library; Make a Difference Wisconsin; The Parenting Network; Social Development Commission; Walnut Way Conservation Corp.

FUEL will launch this year’s Adopt-a-Nonprofit program at the March 22 “Growing a Community” event, featuring Milwaukee’s urban farmer Will Allen. Visit www.fuelmilwaukee.org.

FUEL Milwaukee is an economic development initiative of the Metropolitan Milwaukee Association of Commerce (MMAC).
