Franklin company plans move to West Allis

Weather Tight Corp. plans to move its corporate headquarters from Franklin to a new $2.2 million, 25,625-square-foot building that would be constructed on a vacant 2.5-acre site at 1400 W. Oklahoma Ave. in West Allis.

Weather Tight sells and installs energy efficient products for homes including doors, windows and roofing materials.

The company currently leases about 10,000 square feet of space in Franklin at 10700 W. Venture Drive.
"We’ve been in our current location for about 16 years," said Weather Tight president Tod Colbert. "We have outgrown our facility here. We’ve just completely run out of space."

The company has experienced significant growth expanding from 20 employees to 86 in five years. The firm has had annual revenue growth of about 36 percent and last year posted $9.2 million in revenue.
"We’re continuing to grow at a rapid pace," Colbert said.

The West Allis building, designed by Wahlgren-Schwenn Architects, will provide space for Weather Tight’s offices, a showroom and about 5,000 square feet of warehouse space.

The West Allis location is ideal, Colbert said, because in is centrally located and is easy to get to from the freeway. About 35,000 cars a day pass the property on Oklahoma and National avenues, he said.

"Oklahoma and National converge at a triangle right there," Colbert said. "This plot of land has been sitting there forever and has never been developed, as far as we can tell. It’s the geographical center of our market. It’s a high-visibility, high-traffic location. It’s just perfect for us."

Weather Tight hopes to begin construction of its new headquarters in April and complete the project in November.
