Four hospitals in southeastern Wisconsin were named among the best in the nation, according to a new list released by Healthgrades.
Denver-based Healthgrades produces its annual “America’s Best Hospitals” list based on clinical quality outcomes for 32 conditions and procedures, using 2015-17 Medicare inpatient data. Milwaukee area hospitals to make the 2019 list include: Ascension Columbia St. Mary’s Hospital Milwaukee, Ascension Columbia St. Mary’s Hospital Ozaukee, Froedtert Community Memorial Hospital in Menomonee Falls and Froedtert Hospital in Wauwatosa. That places them among the 250 best hospitals in the nation, or the top 5 percent of hospitals nationally, according to Healthgrades.
Froedtert Hospital made the top 100 list, which represents the top 2 percent of hospitals.
Other Wisconsin hospitals to make the top 250 list include: Bellin Memorial Hospital in Green Bay, UnityPoint Health – Meriter Hospital and SSM Health St. Mary’s Hospital – Madison. See the full list of hospitals here.
Healthgrades said America’s Best Hospitals outperformed their peers in treating a core group of conditions that account for more than 80 percent of mortalities in areas evaluated, including heart attack, heart failure, pneumonia, respiratory failure, sepsis and stroke. Patients treated in the “best” hospitals have, on average, a 27.1 percent lower risk of dying than if they were treated in other hospitals.
In 2018, Aurora St. Luke’s South Shore in Cudahy and Aurora Sinai Medical Center in Milwaukee were the only Wisconsin hospitals named among the nation’s best 100 hospitals, according to Healthgrades.
