Food tour company promotes local business through city wide scavenger hunt

In celebration of its 5th anniversary, Milwaukee Food Tours will host a Milwaukee Foodie Scavenger hunt beginning on Friday, May 4.

Participants will receive puzzles and clues that, once solved, will lead them to local restaurants for discounts and coupons.
“It’s spring, it’s starting to get warm out again so we decided to celebrate our fifth anniversary and the kick-off of our tour season in a fun exciting way designed specifically for local residents,” said Theresa Nemetz, founder of Milwaukee Food Tours. “A lot of people think our tours are just for tourists, but it’s also a great way for Milwaukeeans to rediscover our tasty city.”
Milwaukee Food Tours offers 12 walking and bus tour routes that promote Milwaukee’s immigrant history and feature locally made food and drinks. The tourists offer tours and local residents to explore the city through food.
The scavenger hunt will begin with a puzzle posted on the Milwaukee Food Tours Facebook and Twitter pages. It’s free to play and two clues will be released each day at 8:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m., Nemetz said.
“The clues will be a combination of word scrambles and riddles that reveal key words the guests can use to receive their discounts,” Nemetz said.
The contest will run for one week until Saturday, May 12 and will also feature three signature events throughout the week including a ‘Smell Off’ event at The Spice House on Saturday, May 5 from 2 to 3 p.m.; a Bloody Mary Social at Rustico Pizzeria from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Sunday, May 6 and a gathering at the Milwaukee Cupcake company on Saturday May 12 from noon to 2 p.m. The first 250 people to mention the word ‘buttercream’ will receive a free mini cupcake.
The first person to solve the puzzle will win the gift card prize of the day and will also be entered into the grand prize drawing for a bundle of gift cards from local restaurants valued at over $650. Anyone who correctly solves the clue of the day and shows up at the correct location with the right keyword will also receive smaller prizes like free glasses of wine or coffee, tour gift cards or discounts, Nemetz said. The drawing for the grand prize will take place at 1 p.m. at the Milwaukee Cupcake Company event. Participants do not need to be present to win.
“It’s about promoting our locally owned restaurants,” Nemetz said. “We hope we can introduce some people to some establishments they haven’t been to and really get them to see what a delicious city we have.”
