Food Processors convention starts tomorrow

Midwest Food Processors Association Inc. will host its 109th annual convention and 86th Processing Crops Conference beginning tomorrow in Milwaukee.

The organization has lined up more than 130 exhibitors to display cutting edge industry developments and technology at the three-day conference. Forty presenters will speak about food issues like safety and GMOs.

About 900 key food manufacturing stakeholders from across the country are expected to attend the conference, which includes a membership meeting, speakers, breakout sessions and a forklift rodeo.

Lt. Gov. Rebecca Kleefisch will give the welcoming speech, while leaders from companies like Del Monte Foods, General Mills Inc., Hormel Foods and the Grocery Manufacturers Association will provide insight about best practices and industry trends.

The MWFPA last held its conference in Milwaukee in 2007, said Nickolas George Jr., president of the association.

“We have good food processors in this area, we have a lot of them in this area because frankly the Midwest is a great place to do business,” George said. “Water is a key part of food processing, and that helps tremendously in this area. We have a lot of things going for us in the area.”

In the past, the conference has contributed $650,000 to the local economy.

The conference will be held at the Wisconsin Center, 400 W. Wisconsin Ave. in Milwaukee. For more information or to register, visit www.mwfpa.org.
