Feds allocate $16.1 million for community health centers in Wisconsin

Organizations:

U.S. Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius announced $16.1 million in grants to be awarded to community health centers in Wisconsin.

The grants are being funded through President Barack Obama’s Affordable Care Act.
Grantees estimate the awards will help them serve approximately 29,306 new patients in Wisconsin.
“President Obama’s health care law is making community health centers in Wisconsin stronger,” Sebelius said. “For many Americans, community health centers are the major source of care that ranges from prevention to treatment of chronic diseases. This investment will expand our ability to provide high-quality care to millions of people while supporting good paying jobs in communities across the country.”
Funding totaling more than $728 million across the United States will support renovation and construction projects, boosting health centers’ ability to care for additional patients and creating jobs, according to the administration.
The Wisconsin recipients of the federal funding are:
Family Health Center of Marshfield Inc., $4.4 million.
Madison Community Health Center Inc. , $3 million.
Primary Connection Health Care Inc. in Wausau, $3.4 million.
Progressive Community Health Centers Inc. in Milwaukee, $5 million.
Healthcare for the Homeless of Milwaukee, $348,853.
The Affordable Care Act , often referred to as “Obamacare,” is being challenged in the U.S. Supreme Court, which expected to rule on the constitutionality of the law this year.
