Exterior rehab planned to eliminate leaks at Highbridge Condominiums

The Highbridge Condominium Association is planning an exterior rehabilitation project to eliminate persistent leaking problems in the building at 1888 N. Water St. near downtown Milwaukee.

The 27-unit, 7-story building was built in 2001 by Milwaukee-based New Land Enterprises LLP. In 2002 owners of the condominiums in the building began complaining of numerous leaking problems and in 2005 they sued New Land. The development firm and the condo association reached an out of court settlement in January of 2008, which is being used by the condo association to pay for the exterior rehabilitation project to eliminate the leaks.

The condo association hired William Burkhart, president of Milwaukee-based Skyline Development, to represent them for the project.

"The building has some masonry and window leakage," Burkhart said. "We intend on rehabbing the exterior building envelope to eliminate the leaks."

The building will have a new synthetic stucco exterior when the project is completed later this year, Burkhart said.

"It will still be a nice looking building," he said.
