Expo will have major commercial real estate focus

The third annual Wisconsin Business and Technology Expo, to be held May 2-3 at State Fair Park in West Allis, will feature a major emphasis on commercial real estate.

The expo will include the Green Pavilion, which will be a dedicated exhibit and seminar area, sponsored by We Energies and the Wisconsin Green Building Alliance, with several businesses showcasing their green building products.

The expo will also include several seminars that provide businesses owners and executives with information about how to better run their companies.

Five of the seminars are related to commercial real estate:

  • A "Green Building" 101 seminar will be held from 9:45 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, May 2.
  • Then the "A Tight Building Envelope=A Healthy Safe Environment" seminar will be presented by the Total Energy Savers and Zero Draft organizations from 10:45 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. on May 2.
  • John "Jack" Peckham, president of the Peckham Boston Advisory Company and executive director of the Real Estate Cyberspace Society, will present the "Smart Commercial Brokers-Getting Connected and Staying Smart" seminar from 1:45 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. on May 2.
  • The redevelopment of the former Pabst brewery in Milwaukee will be the focus of a panel discussion on the project during the "Mystery, Mayhem, Madness & Money: Developing Pabst" seminar from 2:45 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. on May 2. The panel will feature Mike Mervis, assistant to Zilber Ltd. founder Joseph Zilber, who is redeveloping the Pabst site; John Kersey, director of Towne Investments, a division of Zilber Ltd.; and Dan McCarthy, director of urban development for Towne Investments.
  • On May 3, FJA Christiansen Roofing will host a seminar on green roofs from 9:45 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.

The Expo will also feature a Development Forum from 1:30 to 4 p.m. on May 3, when officials with several area municipalities and business districts will be present to meet with real estate developers and brokers. The officials at the development forum will include: Milwaukee Department of City Development Commissioner Richard "Rocky" Marcoux; Brookfield director of community development Dan Ertl; West Allis City development director John Stibal; Franklin city development director Doug Wheaton; Oak Creek community development director Doug Seymour; Grafton planning and development director Mike Rambousek; Menomonee Valley Partners Inc. executive director Laura Bray; Historic Third Ward Business Improvement District executive director Nancy O’Keefe; and others.

About 200 businesses and organizations will have exhibition booths at the Expo, which is expected to be attended by about 5,000 businesspeople. The commercial real estate firms that will have booths at the Expo will include The Boerke Company, Judson & Associates, Zilber Ltd./Towne Investments and GE Real Estate.
