The Midwest Energy Research Consortium is continuing to expand the pool of stakeholders involved in its Energy Innovation Center with the addition of three business service providers.
The EIC, a $9.6 million center housing tenants focused on advancing the energy power and control cluster, has welcomed Whyte Hirschboeck Dudek S.C. along with Komisar Brady & Co., LLP and Silicon Pastures to its in-house team.
The EIC’s division of business service providers will offer business-minded resources and expertise to the startup tenants occupying workspace in the center.
While Whyte Hirschboeck Dudek S.C. will advise startup companies on the legal requirements and challenges of launching and growing a business, Komisar Brady & Co. will serve the accounting needs of EIC entrepreneurs. Silicon Pastures, a Milwaukee-based group of angel investors, will bring its investment expertise onsite and help startups gain access to investment capital.
“The EIC is going to be home to our region’s next generation of energy power and control companies,” Alan Perlstein, M-WERC executive director, said in a statement. “As we build out our accelerator, having world-class business service providers as resources to our startups will give them the resources to successfully commercialize their products, ultimately helping grow jobs and expand revenue in the region.”
Construction of the EIC, which occupies 65,000 square feet in the Century City Tower (formerly the Eaton Corp. research building), began in November. M-WERC expects to complete phase one of construction by September. Phase two will likely run from September through October 2016, when M-WERC hopes to have all construction completed and 100 percent occupation.
The center will have the capacity to hold about 60 tenants, 22 of which will likely be business startups.
