EMCO to move HQ to Pleasant Prairie

EMCO Chemical Distributors Inc. will move its corporate headquarters from North Chicago, Ill. to a 260,000-square-foot facility in Pleasant Prairie.

The move will bring about 125 employees to Kenosha County, company president Edward Polen said.

EMCO purchased the Pleasant Prairie building, located at 8601 95th St., in 2010. Since then the company has working on plans to prepare the facility for its operations. The building has about 25,000 square feet of office space. The rest will be used for manufacturing and distribution operations.

EMCO bought the Pleasant Prairie facility from Hexicon Specialty Chemicals, which ceased operations there in 2009.

The company decided to move to the Pleasant Praire facility because it has run out of space in North Chicago and needed additional rail access, Polen said.

Construction work for the Pleasant Prairie headquarters is expected to be complete in July. Then the company will move its operations there.

“We’re looking forward to coming to Wisconsin,” Polen said.

EMCO will maintain its packaging operations, and about 200 employees, in North Chicago.

In addition, the company recently purchased a 65,000-square-foot building at 4909 70th Ave. in Kenosha. The company will move its waste services division there from its current location in a 15,000-square-foot leased space at 9114 58th Place, Kenosha.

The company needed additional space for the waste services operations and the lease on its existing space expires in October, Polen said. The company does not need all of the 65,000 square feet for those operations but plans to grow into the space over time, he said. About a dozen employees work at that facility, and employment there could also expand over time. The waste services operations are expected to move to the new facility by the end of this summer.
