Dunn Lumber was established by Edward F. Dunn and is now being sold by his relatives, brothers Mike and Terry Dunn, who plan to retire. The company provides lumber and building materials, hardware and rentals to professional builders, remodelers and homeowners in Walworth County and wider southeastern Wisconsin, as well as northern Illinois, from its 18,000-square-foot store. DC Design Services, a cabinet design division, also operates there. Dunn Lumber has 45 employees, all of whom will be retained in the transaction, a Spahn & Rose spokeswoman said. The Dunn Lumber branding will remain for the time being.

Spahn & Rose Lumber was established in 1904 and provides lumber and building materials for professional contractors across the Midwest. It has 24 locations in Iowa, Illinois and Wisconsin.

The acquisition, terms of which were not disclosed, is expected to increase Dunn’s business efficiencies and provide it with expanded resources.

“This acquisition is a win-win for everyone,” said Dave Davis, chief executive officer of Spahn & Rose. “Dunn Lumber is a wonderful family business with the same corporate philosophy as Spahn & Rose: It treats customers like family. The culture at Dunn Lumber is very similar to Spahn & Rose, so it is a natural fit. We have no plans to change Dunn Lumber’s name, marketing focus or local management.”
