Downtown trolley kicks off summer rides today

The Milwaukee Trolley Loop, a downtown trolley service operated by Transit Express, is launching its 2015 season of summer rides today.

Trolleys will run Thursdays through Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. through Sept. 5.

Rides, presented by VISIT Milwaukee, cost $1 per trip. Riders should expect one full loop along the route, dubbed the “Hop ‘n Shop, Wine ‘n Dine” route, to take about 40 minutes. Two trolleys will be up and running throughout summer.

Among the destinations the trolleys wander past are the Milwaukee Public Market, the Wisconsin Center, the Milwaukee Public Museum, the Marcus Center for the Performing Arts, the Milwaukee Art Museum, Discovery World at Pier Wisconsin, the Betty Brinn Children’s Museum, The Shops of Grand Avenue, the Grohmann Museum, and the city’s theater and hotel districts.

Restaurants, shops spas and salons also border the trolley route.

Along with lead contributors VISIT Milwaukee and Milwaukee Downtown, BID #21, the trolley service is made possible by the Historic Third Ward Association, Harley-Davidson Museum, the Milwaukee Art Museum, The Shops of Grand Avenue, The Usinger Foundation, East Town Association and Wisconsin Cheese Mart.
