Downtown employee appreciation week kicks off next week

Milwaukee Downtown, Business Improvement District #21 will reward the downtown workforce during the 6th Annual Downtown Employee Appreciation Week, July 25 through July 29.  The week will feature special events, office challenge games, lunchtime giveaways and discounts exclusive to downtown employees.
“I’m really kind of excited,” said Beth Nicols, executive director of Milwaukee Downtown . “There are 82,000 people who work in the downtown area. This is their opportunity to get out of their offices and engage with not only their co-workers but it also to get to know other businesses and employees. It gives us and the downtown businesses an opportunity to say thank you to the people who support Milwaukee’s daytime economy.”
Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett will kick off the week with an opening ceremony at Red Arrow Park at 12:45 p.m. The ceremony will include live music, games and giveaways
According to Nicols, the week will be filled with sponsored giveaways from downtown restaurants, coffee shops and businesses.
Office-themed challenges will take place from 11:45 a.m. to 1:15 p.m., Tues., July 26 through Thurs., July 28, at Red Arrow Park.  Mouse Pad Fling, Grand Prize Game, Rubber Band Shoot, Office Rock Star and a Milwaukee Bucks Basketball Shootout are also among this year’s challenges, Nicols added.
“Something new this year is that on Wednesday, July 28 we’ve expanded our activities from Red Arrow Park to Schlitz Park where we’ll have a Dunk the Boss dunk take, office challenge games and piano man Marcel.”
Volleyball, downtown battle of the bands, the world’s largest coffee break and happy hour at the Grand Avenue Mall will take place again this year as well, Nicols said.
In addition to lunchtime giveaways, some downtown businesses are offering special discounts and complimentary items for downtown employees.
The Marcus Corporation recently announced it will offer free daily giveaways at all of it’s downtown area restaurants and will also be giving away items at The Marcus Gift Place, at 100 E. Wisconsin Avenue’s second floor skywalk.
Downtown employees are asked to wear a paper clip for identification as a downtown employee, but some locations may require proof of a business badge or business card.
“We have a great work force everyone should come out and enjoy this week,” Nicols said. “It’s our turn to say thank you for supporting Milwaukee’s downtown economy.”
